Does this sound like you?

… You want to equip your child with life skills to prepare him for the future.

… You need a breather because aside from being a parent, the role of a teacher has been added to your plate.

… You are struggling to make each lesson easy and fun for your children, just so you can sustain their full attention for a period of time.

… You are overwhelmed with the amount of work it takes to prepare various activities according to the needs and learning styles of your children.

… You are wondering whether what they’re learning may be applicable in their day-to-day lives.

… You want to make a difference in your children’s lives in overall aspects, not just academics, but social, emotional, self esteem.

If you answered “yes” to at least one of these, read on.

What if...

As a parent-educator,

  • You can engage your students in experiences they will like and enjoy without extreme or grand preparations needed.
  • You can focus on the child’s strengths, and are more discerning to each child’s learning style (and actually be able to help them learn).
  • You can ensure that the kids are emotionally growing, fostering resiliency and independence.
  • Your students are inspired, loved and understood; and that your relationship is more like a friend and a mentor to them.
  • You have a strong partnership with families
  • You go to work knowing that your students are enthusiastic to share their ideas and create possibilities.

Hi, I am Sharon

Before becoming a forest school leader, I was helping out in our family business.

I felt stuck in a job that did not give me joy. It was only until recently that I discovered my true calling. [More on that later.]

I did not feel successful because my gifts are not being used. I did not have a voice of my own.

I saw a similarity happening to my 11-yr old niece, Maia. In every decision she makes, she consults her mom (my sister).

If you’re a parent, do you remember having your child for the first time?

You want to give the world to them, and do everything to protect them from the dangers of the world.

We did the same to Maia. She almost did not lift a finger, as we did all the heavy lifting for her.

The problem with that is that she became dependent on other people to do things for her. Worse, she became too dependent on us to also think for her.

That got me thinking:

Are my nieces and nephew, or should I say,

are OUR CHILDREN ready for the future?

The skills they learn in school, are they enough to make them succeed? Are the schools preparing them for independence and success?

Remember I told you something about finding my calling? Because I didn’t want to die not living my purpose, I searched. I discovered 3 things I love were: the outdoors, education, and children.

This searched led me to forest school.

Here’s what I discovered:

The problems that we talked about can be addressed by 2 simple things—nature and play. But only if you know how to facilitate it properly.

That type of education is called FOREST SCHOOL.

The wonderful thing about forest school is that…

  • Children can freely learn, not just confined to the four walls of a classroom, but in a relaxing environment such as nature.
  • Outdoors is where they learn to be confident, resilient, creative and independent, because it just cannot be taught in the classroom.
  • Education is holistic and the different domains of the child are developed–physical, emotional, social, intellectual, communication, spiritual.
  • When kids are connected to nature, it helps us build a generation of humans who appreciate, show respect and take care of the environment.
  • You don’t need to prepare materials because nature provides rich and natural resources for kids to explore.
  • Kids get to experience risky play, which allows them to learn to watch out for themselves, others, and the environment.

Forest school has given me the most fulfilling job both as an educator and an auntie.

I’d like to invite you to:
